Click More, then click Members, then click Adults. Select yourself. Check On moderation, and click the save icon in the top toolbar.
Click Chat, select the unit chat group, and send 2 test messages. Steps 2-4 will generate notifications for the whole unit; you might want to skip them.
Go back to Chat and select the Moderators group. Approve the first test message. Block then Delete the second test message.
The approved test message will be in the unit chat.
Return to the More tab, update your member to remove On moderation, check Read-only, and save.
A quick look at the chat groups shows you can no longer post messages. Update your member again to remove the Read-only check and save. You are now able to post again.
On the More tab, back up to the top level, choose Groups, select the unit group, locate your entry, check the Read-only checkbox and save.
Now in the unit chat group you cannot post, but you can in the Moderators chat. Return to the unit group and uncheck Read-only for yourself and save.
Chat Groups
On the More tab, Groups page, click the + icon in the toolbar to add a new group; reply No to the temporary group message.
Type Test for the Group Name.
Click on the Youth blue Link+ button. Check any two of the checkboxes and set the Read-only toggle for one of them. Click Save in the upper lefthand corner.
Both youth are listed, one with the Read-only checkbox.
Click on the Adults blue Link+ button; check only the checkbox for yourself, and click Save in the upper lefthand corner.
There are two youth and one adult. Click Save in the upper right. An error will pop up: 2 adults are required for youth members.
Add another adult to the group and Save.
Click Chat, then click on the Test group. To test the profanity filter: attempt to send a message containing an offensive word such as "poop".
It will be blocked. Send "Offensive Message" instead. Double-click on the Offensive Message and reply Yes to delete the message.
Click on the "leave group" icon in the upper right. Reply Yes to Are You Sure? Reply No to Continue?
Click on the More tab, select the Test group, click the Clipboard icon; a little report shows when each adult last viewed messages; click the Cancel icon at the bottom to close the report.
Click the Delete icon, then reply Yes to confirm delete.
Click on the back arrow to retun to the More page.
Calendar Events
Click on the Calendar tab. Click the + icon in the top toolbar to add an event to the calendar.
Enter a title, shorter is better. Enter the location; for example Camp Crown. Enter Meet At, for example Troop Garage. Enter a description; which can be up to 1920 characters.
Choose a When date, then a When time. Set the End date and time, and the cost.
It this is an outing that could benefit from an associated chat group, check the box to create a chat group.
If you do not choose a Signup Deadline, members will be able to RSVP until the start time of the event. Use a Signup Deadline to close RSVPs sooner.
If specified, the system will send reminder messages out to the unit chat group.
If this is a service event where members work in shifts, enter shifts. For example: 8-10A; 8-10B; 8-10C; 8-10D; 10-12A; 10-12B; 10-12C; 10-12D. Then press the + button.
If this is an event where members can volunteer to bring things, enter needs. For example for a Court of Honor: Brownies; 24 water bottles; Napkins. Then press the + button.
Each shift or need can be claimed by one member when they RSVP.
Click the Save icon in the top toolbar. Then select the new event from the list. You can RSVP, claim a need if defined, and claim a shift if supplied. There is a button under RSVP to report on who is going; there are also buttons to report on Bringing and Covering.
Adults can RSVP for themselves or other family members.
Chatmasters can use the pencil and trashcan icons in the top toolbar to edit and delete events.
New Members
Click on the More bottom tab, then select Members. Click the + icon in the top toolbar to add a member. It is easier to add the scout before adding parents.
Choose Youth from the popup message, then enter at least the first and last name of the scout.
Enter a position if applicable, for example assistant patrol leader. Enter a Patrol if applicable. Patrol names are not enforced so be consistent.
If you enter a birthdate it can be used to note when they turn 18. Enter a Grade if desired.
If you check Copy In Parents, parents will be added (Read-only) to every group the scout is added to.
Read-only prevents posting messages. On moderation sends all of the scout's posts to the moderators group for review.
If the parents are already members, add them using the Link+ button.
Entering an address is helpful for pickup and dropoff. Click the Save icon in the top toolbar.
Repeat to add parents, adding the new scout to the parents. Family links are two-way; you can add youth to parents or parents to youth.
Click on the back arrow to retun to the More page.
Other Information
Click on the More bottom tab, then select About ScoutChat.
The Youth Cautions button will show you the same popup that youth see when they first use the system.
The Usage Notes button has additional system documenation.
Click on the back arrow to return to the More page.
The More tab Unit button takes you to the Unit page where you can update unit options, report on Members, and bump all youth to the next grade.
The More tab Notifications button takes you to the Notifications page where you can send Notifications and review those you have received.
The More tab Feedback button takes you to the Feedback page where you can make suggestions about ScoutChat.
Click on the Settings bottom tab.
Adults with children in the unit will see the Family Information button which allows parents to update their children's Member page.
The Theme radio buttons control the display theme.
